This work is a work newly derived from 'Drawing on Newspaper'.
While I was creating this work, I realised something unexpected. I realised that on certain days, before I look at the newspaper I already know the texts and the sort of pictures it will contain. When I got the newspaper on those days, I felt as though I were a person from the future.
This happened on August 6th and August 9th, the days when the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Just twice a year, on August 6th and 9th each year, I am drawing that day's sky over articles about the atomic bombs.
Can I continue to draw these beautiful skies until I die? Will Japanese newspapers continue unfailingly to run articles about this issue? Will humans make the same mistakes again? I draw these works with something like a prayer in my heart, imagining an installation covered by these skies in twenty or forty years time.
